The Evolution of Art was an interactive installation at Mountain Ridge Junior High during May of 2013. Originally, five artworks were displayed (see row 1). Viewers voted for their favorite piece by placing coins or bills in a slot below each artwork. The artwork that received the most money became the parent of a new generation of artworks (see row 2). The process was repeated until there were 4 total generations.
Each row represents a generation. The right-most artwork in each row is the work that was chosen as the parent for the following generation. Each artwork is an 11" x 11" panel. |
The Evolution of Art is a reflection on the way art has evolved over time. If this same installation were shown in a different venue, the evolution would likely have followed a different route completely.
